09/11/2024
At Bank of New Hampshire, we believe in nurturing talent and providing opportunities for growth, and Brendan Furtek’s career path is a testament to this commitment. Today, we shine a spotlight on Brendan, whose journey with Bank of New Hampshire began in March 2018, as a part-time Bank Services Representative (BSR) at our Littleton office. His story is one of growth, adaptability and dedication.
From BSR to Wealth Management: A Path of Growth
Brendan began his career at Bank of New Hampshire in a role many might see as just a starting point—a part-time BSR. However, his passion for the financial field, sparked by an early interest in economics, propelled him forward. Over the next few years, he advanced to BSR IV. Despite his success, Brendan felt the need for a new challenge and considered moving to a different institution. But the supportive environment at BNH allowed him to pivot his career path without leaving the Bank. He transitioned into the Wealth Management team, where he now focuses on retirement plans and general investments.
A Strategic Career Move
What makes Brendan’s journey unique is the significant change he embraced when moving from Littleton to Concord, New Hampshire, along with transitioning to a new role. This move marked a memorable and exciting chapter in his career. He reflects on this experience as a time of growth and new opportunities, highlighting how the Bank’s flexibility and commitment to its employees can lead to unexpected yet rewarding career shifts.
Why Bank of New Hampshire
When asked why he chose a career in banking and why he selected BNH, Brendan shared a simple yet powerful reason: the people. He initially chose to work here because it was the bank where he had his accounts, and he was always impressed by the pleasant interactions with the staff. This positive environment continued to motivate him throughout his career, proving that who you work with can make all the difference in job satisfaction.
Investing in Growth
BNH has played a significant role in Brendan’s professional development by investing in his education and certifications. “BNH has funded most of my college education and specialized certification courses, allowing me to live debt-free and without worry,” he shares. This investment has not only helped Brendan advance his career but also reinforced his decision to stay with the Bank
Words of Wisdom
For those just starting their careers, Brendan offers valuable advice: “Don’t be afraid to enter into an entry-level position that is only partially similar to where you want to end up. Talk to your manager about what you want and work on a career path to achieve that goal.” His experience underscores the importance of being open to new opportunities and communicating your aspirations within your organization.
One Word to Describe His Journey
When asked to sum up his career at BNH in one word, Brendan chose Unexpected. His career path, from BSR to Wealth Management, may not have been what he originally envisioned, but it turned out to be a fulfilling and successful journey, thanks to the opportunities and support provided by the Bank.
Now six years later, Brendan is a Retirement Plans & Investments Administrator for Bank of New Hampshire Wealth Management, located at 3 Eagle Square in Concord. Brendan can be reached by phone at 603.527.6779 or via email at [email protected].
