Employee Spotlight | Stephanie Durfee, AVP – Electronic Banking Manager
06/24/2026
Stephanie Durfee’s journey with Bank of New Hampshire is a testament to growth, dedication and the power of embracing new opportunities.
Her career with the bank began as a temporary employee in the Customer Service Center, where she worked as a Switchboard Operator to cover a two-week vacation. When that assignment ended, Stephanie was asked to assist in the ATM department, which evolved into a temporary role for the next year. In 2000, she officially joined BNH full-time as an ATM Clerk.
Shortly thereafter, the ATM department merged with the ACH department, creating what is now known as the Electronic Banking department — an area that Stephanie has proudly helped grow and evolve ever since.
Finding a New Career Path
Before joining BNH, Stephanie worked third shift at a factory and was searching for a career change. One day while waiting in the bank’s main office, she interacted with the receptionist and realized how much she wanted the opportunity to work in an office environment.
That moment inspired her to pursue a new path — one that ultimately led to a long and successful career in banking.
Growing Through Learning and Experience
Throughout her time at BNH, Stephanie has continuously expanded her expertise through participation in banking schools and in-person conferences focused on ACH, debit card operations and fraud prevention. These opportunities have strengthened her industry knowledge and supported her professional growth within Electronic Banking.
One of Stephanie’s proudest accomplishments is earning her Accredited ACH Professional (AAP) certification — a highly respected credential within the banking industry. The exam is known for its rigor, with a pass rate of less than 50%. As of 2025, there are only 4,533 AAP professionals in the United States, making this achievement especially noteworthy.
Working with Customers and Employees
When asked what she enjoys most about working at BNH, Stephanie’s answer is simple:
“The customers and employees.”
She also describes her career in one word: Interesting. “Working in Electronic Banking, things can change from day to day. No one day is alike,” she says.
Advice for Future Professionals
Stephanie shares valuable advice for anyone beginning their career journey:
“Never stop learning. Be curious, ask questions.”
Her story is a great example of how curiosity, hard work and a willingness to grow can lead to a rewarding and impactful career.
