Small Business Spotlight: ATA Outdoor Media
10/27/2025

If you see a bus wrapped in a vibrant advertisement rolling through your town, there’s a good chance ATA Outdoor Media created it. Founded in 1992 by Jane Marlo Cutter, ATA Outdoor has grown into a leading transit advertising company, serving more than 20 markets in New England.
From Idea to Industry Leader
Jane’s background in marketing, advertising and public relations laid the foundation for ATA Outdoor. After moving to New Hampshire in the early 1990s, she worked in radio and then an advertising agency. One of her clients was COAST Public Transit, based in Dover, NH, with whom she assisted with their marketing needs. It quickly became clear that transit agencies needed a better way to manage and sell advertising space on their buses.
“I saw a need to make things more streamlined,” Jane explained. “Everything from signing contracts to assigning buses, taking in artwork, wrapping buses and removing buses—we make that easy for our advertisers.”
Over the past 33 years, ATA Outdoor has grown steadily, helping regional and national advertisers connect with audiences across Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and northern Massachusetts.
A Local Approach to Outdoor Advertising
What sets ATA Outdoor apart is its deep connection to the markets it serves. Unlike large national conglomerates, ATA’s team lives and works in the communities they serve.
“We’re very in touch with all the market dynamics,” Jane said. “Everything we represent is generally within an hour to a four-hour drive from our headquarters.”
This local insight ensures that ATA Outdoor delivers advertising campaigns that resonate with both businesses and the communities they reach.
The company also donates a percentage of its revenue to the public transit system to help offset expenses, while keeping it viable for those who rely on it.
A Banking Relationship Built on Shared Values
As ATA Outdoor expanded, the company sought a banking partner that could offer not just financial services, but a true relationship. That’s where Bank of New Hampshire came in.
“Our relationship with Bank of New Hampshire is quite new, but it’s quite refreshing,” Jane shared. “They provide the human contact and the level of service we want.”
ATA’s Chief Financial Officer recommended the switch after the company experienced challenges with larger, less personal institutions. Since then, Bank of New Hampshire has supported ATA with a line of credit and streamlined day-to-day banking activities.
“Working with ATA Outdoor is a great example of what a true banking relationship looks like,” said Jacy Amenkowicz, VP – Commercial Banker for Bank of New Hampshire. “Our team is committed to being accessible, responsive and invested in our clients’ success, and we’re excited to see ATA continue to thrive in the communities they serve.”
Covering New England, One Market at a Time
Today, ATA Outdoors’ footprint spans 20 transit markets, including:
- All of Vermont up to Burlington.
- The entire state of New Hampshire, from the Seacoast to Berlin.
- Maine, from Biddeford and Portland up to Bangor.
- Northern Massachusetts, from Lowell to New Bedford and Fall River.
Alongside transit advertising, ATA also manages several private billboards, staying true to its mission of helping businesses get noticed in the outdoor space.
