Bank of New Hampshire’s Prestige Plus Members Travel to Finland

04/20/2023

Laconia, New Hampshire – April 20, 2023 – Bank of New Hampshire’s Prestige Plus travel program reflects on their February trip to Finland.

It is said that the people of Finland are among the happiest people in the world and after traveling there in February, we certainly understand why. Bank of New Hampshire’s Prestige Plus members landed in the Finnish capitol of Helsinki and immediately felt the vibrant, laid back atmosphere of Finland. Although it was the middle of winter, there were people out and about everywhere they went; casually meeting for coffee, having lunch at local cafés or shopping in the beautiful and pristine city of Helsinki.

Finland’s capitol of Helsinki, is a walkable city where the group explored the most famous building in City, the Helsinki Cathedral. Because it was built high above other buildings, with grand steps leading up to the beautiful snow-white exterior and green domes, the Helsinki Cathedral can be seen from every corner of the City.. Prestige Plus members also visited the famous Sibeluis Park, a church built into the side of a rock ledge, and the Helsinki Library, built in 2018 and named Finland’s most beautiful building. The library is built the shape of a large ship, with light hardwood floors and glass walls. The light and bright interior is used as not only a library, but also as a gathering place for the people of Helsinki.

After two days in Helsinki, the group flew to Lapland, the northernmost region in Finland. It was a once in a lifetime destination known for the stunning nighttime sky views, wide open landscapes and fresh winter air. Their home for the next three nights was their own private Finnish Log Cabin with an attached glass Igloo at the Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort. During their stay in Lapland, the Prestige Plus members witnessed the incredible Northern Lights every night! It was magical to see the rippling colored curtain of light illuminate the sky. It was the highlight of the trip for many of the travelers and the photos taken were spectacular.

Another highlight from this trip was leading their own sled dog team. Prestige Plus members spent some time getting to know these amazing Husky dogs and learning the commands to lead the team. They had an incredible experience mushing through the wilderness, driving their own dog sled.  After dog sledding, they had a chance to meet the adorable Husky puppies that are raised at the resort. They also met some of the friendly Lappish reindeer and took a moonlight reindeer sleigh ride and went snowmobiling on several miles of groomed trails at the resort.

Seeing the Northern Lights was a bucket list item for many of our Prestige Plus travelers and this trip delivered!  It’s an unforgettable experience to see the Northern Lights once in a lifetime, but to witness them three nights in a row was simply spectacular.
